Get to Know Your Overlocker Glasgow

Ready to conquer stretch fabrics? Whether you want to sew clothes for yourself, whip up dance costumes, or give your handmade business a professional finish, this class will get you confident with the mighty overlocker!

Who’s it for?
This class is designed for beginners to overlockers. If you’ve never threaded one before, or your machine is still sitting in the box, this is the class for you. Some basic sewing knowledge (such as our Beginners Course) is recommended, but no overlocker experience is required.

What you’ll learn:

• How to thread an overlocker from scratch
• How to change threads without unthreading completely
• How to sew stretch fabrics with ease
• How to make a simple stretchy garment on the overlocker
• The confidence to use, thread, and rethread your overlocker at home

Please note: You may not complete your full garment in class, but you’ll leave with the skills to finish it at home or at one of our Sewcials.

What’s included:

• Use of our Janome 6234XL overlockers (if you don’t bring your own)
• Expert step-by-step tuition from your tutor
• Advice on choosing the right overlocker if you’re considering buying one (plus class-participant discounts available on some models)

What to bring:

• A stretch sewing pattern of your choice (we’ll send you suggestions once you book)
• Pre-washed and cut fabric for your chosen pattern
• Your basic sewing kit (scissors, pins, unpicker, etc.)
• Optional: Your own overlocker (must be in good working order,  supermarket models can often be tricky)

Don’t worry if sourcing fabric and patterns feels overwhelming, we can help you pick the perfect combination in the studio.

• 3 Hour class
• Hands-on learning with small groups
• Focused on beginner-friendly skills (advanced overlocking is covered in our Intermediate Overlocker Class)
